Egress Survey Reveals Challenges Faced by IT Leaders in Cybersecurity Management
An extensive Egress survey of 800 IT leaders sheds light on the difficulties they encounter in managing cybersecurity expectations versus reality. Here are the key findings:
Difficulty in Choosing Cybersecurity Products
91% of IT leaders find it hard to select cybersecurity vendors due to unclear marketing. 41% rated this challenge as "very difficult," while 50% rated it as "somewhat difficult."
Overreliance on Technology
92% of organizations implement a defense-in-depth strategy, with the most common number of security products being 11-20 (46% of respondents). However, adding more security products leads to issues for about half of IT leaders. 49% experience vendor sprawl, 49% have an overly complex security stack, and 48% struggle with managing their tech stack effectively.
Understanding the Role of AI in Cybersecurity Products
77% of surveyed organizations utilize cybersecurity products with AI, but 34% admitted to not "fully understanding" how AI enhances the effectiveness of their security products.
Security Awareness and Training (SA&T) Challenges
98% of organizations conduct SA&T, with 55% hosting sessions several times a year and 38% holding monthly training. However, 45% of organizations switch SA&T suppliers annually. Despite this, 96% of the surveyed IT leaders believe that training can lead to long-term positive change. The key drivers for their SA&T programs include regulatory compliance, cyber insurance requirements, and creating a security culture.
